Sinhala Language School
Our School Mahamevnawa Sinhala Language School is committed to deliver an informative learning experience to our young generation of Sri Lankan community in Victoria to enhance their Sinhala language skills along with an insight into precious Sri Lankan heritage, culture and traditions and to help different generations to communicate with each other in Sinhala Language.
About us
We aim to empower multiculturalism in Australia with the Sinhala language and Sri Lankan culture, nurturing great citizens in society through the cultivation of good values and conduct. Under the supervision and guidance of Venerable Sangha, the Principal and the teaching staff work hard to open all avenues for the development of the language skills of the children. We follow the Victorian curriculum guidelines to develop the Sinhala school curriculum for each level improving students’ reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in the Sinhala Language. The Sinhala language is taught by a group of experienced teaching staff every Sunday from 10:25 am to 1:10 pm. Currently, we have 6 classes covering from the Preparation level up to Year 10. In addition, we conduct a special class, specially designed for newly joined students from any age group with no prior Sinhala knowledge. To make the learning more interesting students are engaged in various activities such as listening to kids’ Sinhala stories, watching Sinhala videos and learning Sinhala songs, and learning interesting facts about Sinhalese culture. The Sinhala school facilitates the learning process of the children further by incorporating various learning methods, facilities, curriculum, and guidelines. Sinhala reading books have been designed with the aim of developing morals within the children up to Year 9. In addition to the academic focus, we hold a ‘Cultural Forum’ at the end of the year with the participation of all classes, giving them an opportunity to cement their learning, augment innate talents and enhance their interpersonal and presentation skills. We’re committed to implementing and upholding all Child Safe practices as required by the Victorian Government. Our School has zero tolerance for child abuse and is committed to the protection of all children from all forms of abuse. We are clear about our behavioral expectations of every person in our community.
