Donation of Hospital beds and equipment ( July 2013)

“He who attends on the sick and invalids attends on me ” Supreme Gautama Buddha Most human beings spend much of their time in looking after the body. They spend time and energy in doing exercises, such as running, walking, swimming etc., to keep the body healthy. These activities have a tendency to produce temporary physical and mental states of invincibility and indestructability.

However much one cares for the body, it will decay and worsen with age and time. This eventuality is unavoidable and reflects the true nature of living beings and the elements (hardness or softness, fluidity, heat and cold, and air element) that constitute the physical body.

Sick people often have to restrict their diet and take medication till they die. Most people are not aware that the mind is more important than the body and that the body is extensively influenced by the mind. For example, the psychosomatic diseases are exclusively caused by an impure mind. This explains why Lord Buddha exhorted on his disciples the importance of ministering to the sick. Following on, with the noble aim of helping the sick and the elderly, in July 2013, Mahamevnawa Buddhist Meditation Centre – Melbourne took the initiative to collect and ship medical equipment to the needy in Sri Lanka.

This was gratefully received by both the hospitals and patients who were in great need of sent equipment. Having understood the positive impact their donation made toward improving the quality of medical care in rural Sri Lankan communities, Melbourne and Sydney Mahamevnawa Buddhist Meditation Centres jointly organized Under the patronage and guidance of residing monks of Mahamevnawa Monasteries in Australia, this was kindly facilitated by Mr H.W Suriya and Upasthana Committee members.

The distribution of this shipment of equipment to selected rural and teaching hospitals was held at Kundasale Mahamevnawa Asapuwa, Sri Lanka with the help of Mahamevnawa Suwa Sewa Organisation. The recipients of these equipment were extremely grateful and appreciative of the thoughts, efforts, and sacrifices made by all those who were involved.

MMBMC gratefully acknowledge the support and assistance extended to us by all those who contributed to make these donations a success. We respectfully share all the merits collected during conceptualizing, organizing and completing this Narratives meritorious activity with everyone involved and who appreciate such endeavours.
